R.L. Stine (Full name: Robert Lawrence Stine) is a best-selling American author best known for his children’s horror fiction novels such as the Goosebumps and Fear Street series.
He has written 372 books (including 180 Goosebumps and 150 Fear Street books). His books have sold over 400 million copies and have been translated into 35 languages.
Various sources estimate his net worth at $200 million, making him one of the wealthiest authors of all time.
R.L. Stine was born on October 8, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio, USA. He discovered his love for writing when at age 9; he found an old typewriter in the attic. His writing career, however, began in 1967 when he moved to New York City where he wrote joke books for kids under the pen name Jovial Bob Stine.
Stine catapulted to fame in the 1990s when his Goosebumps book series became a hit worldwide.
His books have been made into movies, TV shows and video games. The Goosebumps TV show was the number one kids’ show in America for three years in a row. The Goosebumps movie (starring Jack Black) was released in 2015.
