Is blogging dead?

Blogging has been around for roughly 20 years. From its shaky beginnings, blogging has evolved into a multibillion dollar industry. Despite this, many have been predicting its death for years.

When you search Google Trends for the terms ‘How to start a blog’ (the blue line), you can see a steady decline in blogging’s popularity from its peak in 2011. In contrast, ‘How to start a YouTube channel’ (the red line) has been experiencing steady growth.

Blogging interest over time in Google trends

Looking at this data, you would be forgiven for thinking that blogging is on its death bed.

So, is blogging really dead?

No, blogging is not dead. Despite this decline in popularity, blogging is still very popular. You can clearly see this when you look at the statistics.

The number of bloggers in the US has increased from 27.4m in 2014 to 31.7 in 2020 [1] (Blogging Statistics).

In 2021, this number is probably well above 32 million (or about 10% of the US population).

Myths about why blogging is on the decline

There are many reasons people give to explain why blogging is dead, for example:

  • Blogging is no longer profitable.
  • People don’t read blogs anymore.
  • Blogging has become too competitive.
  • Blogging has a low return on investment.
  • All the good niches have been taken.
  • Social media and video has killed blogging.

While there is some truth to these statements, these reasons apply mainly to the old way of blogging.

The first blogs were mostly online diaries that documented people’s daily activities, struggles and opinions. Blogging was done without any structure or strategy.

Randomly putting your thoughts online may have worked 10 years ago, but this kind of blogging will not work today.

In this article, I will address these popular myths and you will see, based on the available data, why blogging is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Blogging is still one of the best opportunities to make money online

For those willing to put in the work and do things the right way, it is a great time to get into blogging. You could even say that we are in the second golden age of blogging.

If you want to start a website or blog but you are not sure how to go about it, check out the article below. It will take you step-by-step through the process of starting a blog the right way.

Why blogging is still relevant

Let us look, in detail, why blogging is still relevant in today’s world.

1. Blogging Is Still Profitable

Many bloggers get into blogging with the hope of making decent money online and this is fair considering that you need to see a return on your effort.

But can you really make money from blogging?

Yes. When you look at blogger surveys, you will see that about 15% of bloggers are able to make a full-time income online ($2,500+ a month) even when blogging part time. If you want to see the evidence for this, check out my analysis of blogger surveys here.

However, what is even more exciting is that you can make serious money if you put in the effort. When you read income reports from top bloggers, you will find that many of them can make 10k, 20k or 50k a month. Some even make over 200k a month (see income reports here).

What these reports show is that blogging is still profitable and will remain profitable as long as you do blogging in the right way.

Why blogging has become so profitable?

There are several reasons why blogging has become so profitable, especially in recent times.

#1. It is has become cheaper to start and run a blog

Back in the day, setting up a website or a blog was a costly and time consuming affair. You had to hire a web designer and then get someone to manage your server for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

This has now changed. There are many services and tools that will help you set up your blog in no time, even if you don’t have the technical skills.

It has become very cheap to set up a blog. You can set up a fully functional blog for less than $5 a month.

For a small amount of money, you can create an asset that can bring you a steady income every month.

#2. Increase in ad revenue

Back in the day, Google AdSense was the primary way that people could monetize their sites. But AdSense revenue was low unless you had good traffic. Today, there are many more options to make money from ads.

For example, some bloggers have been able to double or triple their income by simply changing from AdSense to a premium ad network like Ezoic, Mediavine or Ad Thrive.

Ezoic is probably the easiest to get into as a beginner because it is free to join and unlike other premium ad networks, they do not have a minimum traffic requirement to qualify. You can find out more about how Ezoic works here.

#3. Increase in the number of affiliate programs

Many companies are now embracing affiliate marketing. About 81% of big US brands have affiliate programs (Blogging Statistics). Leading the way are giant shopping companies like Amazon, Walmart, Ebay and Target.

Spending on affiliate marketing in the US was estimated to be $7.4 billion in 2021 and this is expected to grow to $8.2 billion in 2022 [2](Blogging Statistics).  For example, ShareASale, one of the big affiliate networks, paid its affiliates over $1 billion in 2021.

#4. There are better tools and services to help you make money

One great way to make money from your blog, especially if you have low traffic, is to sell your own products (such as books, printables, t-shirts, courses, and software). You can also sell your services and skills.

Here are some of the popular tools that will make it easy for you to sell your products and services.

  • You can create an e-commerce store with a free solution like WooCommerce or a paid solution like Shopify.
  • You can turn your blog into a platform for selling courses and memberships using Memberpress
  • You can sell digital downloads (PDFs, ebooks, photos, and other printables) using Payhip.

2. People Still Read Blogs

The hype surrounding video and social media has given the impression that people no longer read blogs. But is this really the case?

How many people still read blogs?

Depending on which statistics you look at, the number of people who read blogs is between 60 and 80% of internet users (Blogging Statistics).  But the number may be much higher because there is still a great deal of confusion regarding what is a blog.

In many people’s minds, a blog is still associated with personal online diaries that characterized most early blogs. The blog posts had comments and were arranged in chronological order.

Today, the line between website and blog is blurred. Blogging platforms like WordPress have made it easy for any website to have a blog that will not have any resemblance to a traditional blog.

When you do a Google search and land on an article, that article is highly likely to be a blog article.

Considering that there are 3.5 to 5.5 billion Google searches every day [3] (Blogging Statistics), then most people are reading blog articles without recognizing them as such.

Why do people still read blogs?

Reading and writing has been an important part of how we exchange information for centuries and this is not likely to change any time soon.

There are practical reasons why people still prefer to read information instead of watching a video, listening to a podcast or getting information from social media.

#1. It is easier to get relevant content

Google makes it quite easy to get the kind of content you want. When you search for a certain topic, you get millions of results connected to your query. This is only possible because there is an abundance of blog content regarding almost any subject.

Newer platforms lack this abundance of content. You may, for example, search YouTube for a topic and get few or no videos about that topic.

#2. It is easy to quickly get information

A 20-minute blog post can give you more information than an hour-long video. With a well written blog post, you can easily skim and jump to relevant sections.

In fact, 73 % of blog readers skim through content (Blogging Statistics). In this era of information overload, being able to quickly find information you need is definitely an advantage.

#3. You can explore a topic in great detail

With a blog post, you can go deep into a topic. Many social media platforms are set up to encourage short, snackable content and are therefore unsuitable for exploring complex topics in detail.

Videos can work for in-depth content but such videos can be time consuming to make and not many people want to sit for hours watching a video.

#4. You can save bandwidth

There are still many parts of the world where people access the internet through their mobile phones and have to pay for bandwidth plans. For many of them, it can be quite expensive to watch a video on a mobile plan.

In addition, many also have to deal with buffering video due to slow internet speeds. To avoid all these inconveniences, they opt for blog posts.

However, saving bandwidth is becoming less of an issue as internet technology improves and costs are coming down. This explains the rising popularity of video sharing platforms (like YouTube and TikTok)

3. The Content Marketing Industry Is Growing Rapidly

The content marketing industry has been growing at a phenomenal rate and the opportunities are only going to get bigger in the coming years as more people adopt content marketing.

But what is content marketing?

Content marketing is a form of digital marketing that uses valuable and relevant content to market products and services. It involves producing different kinds of content (such as blog content, video, social media posts, e-books or email newsletters) and using them to drive traffic.

Marketers still prefer to use blogging for content marketing. According to some statistics, 93% of marketers use blogging as part of their content marketing mix (Blogging Statistics).

The growth of content marketing is great for bloggers. When more money is pumped into content marketing, bloggers can earn more.

Why the content marketing and blogging industries will continue to grow

Things are looking up for the content marketing industry (and blogging industry in particular). Here are the reasons why.

#1. Increase in Digital Ad spending

Digital ad spending surpassed that of traditional advertising in 2019.

In 2021, digital ad spending accounted for 64% of total media ad spending and was estimated to be at $419 billion globally.

Forecasts show digital ad spending will account for 67.8% of all media ad spend by 2024 [4] (Blogging Statistics).

The increase in ad spending explains why premium ad networks like Ezoic, Mediavine or Ad thrive are able to pay bloggers significantly more money than in the past.

#2. More people are getting online

Ten years ago, only about 38% of the world’s population had access to the internet. As of 2021, about 65.6 % of the global population had internet access and the number is steadily rising [5] (Blogging Statistics).

As more people get online, the demand for valuable content will continue to increase, especially in countries experiencing growth in internet users (such as India or Nigeria).

#3. The rise of e-commerce

In 2020, e-commerce sales accounted for 17.8 percent of all retail sales worldwide and this is expected to grow to 24.5 percent by 2025. [6]

The COVID 19 pandemic accelerated the move by small businesses online. As the shutdowns began to bite, business owners had no option but to take their businesses online.

In 2021, over 2.14 billion people worldwide are expected to buy goods and services online  (Blogging Statistics).

When people take their businesses online, they tend to invest more in in digital advertising rather than traditional advertising (like newspapers or TV) because it shortens the time between someone seeing an ad and taking action (such as clicking to a link to an online shop).

When more companies take their businesses online, digital advertising (including content marketing) and affiliate marketing will become even more crucial for generating sales.

#4. Better results with content marketing

Content marketing is quite effective. For example, nearly half (47%) of global shoppers say they use Google before buying something new [7]. In addition, 76% of people who search on their smartphones for something nearby visit a business within a day (Blogging Statistics).

There are several reasons why content marketing is so effective:

  • It provides targeted customers. For example, if you sell mattresses, you can advertise on a blog talking about mattresses.
  • It is great for building trust and loyalty which leads to higher conversions.
  • People can take action immediately. With TV, for example, you hope that they will remember to go online and check you out after seeing your ad.

As more businesses realize the power of content marketing, they will invest in it as the primary method of marketing which is great for bloggers.

4. Increased Restrictions in Major Online Platforms

When social media platforms became popular, many people saw them as a convenient way to make money online and market their businesses. As a result, many people now rely on platforms like YouTube, Tiktok, Facebook or Instagram for their businesses or even their entire livelihood.

Recently, we have began to see increased restrictions and censorship by these big platforms.

If your entire business is based on such platforms, you could lose what you built over many years at the click of a button. You lose your income, visitors, engagement and in some cases, your content.

Many people, especially those in business, are now waking up this danger and are looking for alternative ways to secure their income. Many have discovered that having their own websites and blogs can help reduce the risk.

How blogging can protect your business from increased restrictions on platforms

Blogging helps you to protect your livelihood in several ways. A blog will help you to:

#1. Create a platform you can control

You need to build your business on a platform you own and control. The easiest way to do this is to create a WordPress website and an email list.

The great thing about WordPress (WordPress.org) is that it is free and open-source. This means that no one will prevent you from using the platform or kick you out for one reason or another.

If you don’t have a WordPress website, see how to create one in this article.

You can then use blog articles and social media to build up your email list.

If you have a large enough email list, you can make a full-time income from it even if you don’t get traffic from any other source. You also own your list and no one can take your email subscribers away from you.

You can start building your email list for free using a service like Systeme.io.

#2. Avoid being held hostage to rules, regulations and policies

There are many people who exploit these big platforms to scam people, spread misinformation or create hateful content. Rules and regulations are therefore important in any platform.

Due to the sheer size of these platforms, they have to use algorithms to do the policing. Algorithms are still not perfect and you can be erroneously flagged even if you follow the rules correctly.

With your blog, you protect yourself against these errors. In addition, nobody restricts you on who to work with, what to put on your blog or how to make money from your blog.

#3. Become more diversified

Even if you think that you are not in danger of being kicked out of these major platforms, it helps to be diversified. As long as you are not in control, you cannot predict what will happen.

With a blog, you can diversify by:

  • Having different ways of making money. Platforms may restrict you in the ways you can make money, for example, by restricting you to only one advertising partner.
  • Tap into different forms of traffic. With some platforms, you are reliant on traffic that the platform sends your way. With a blog you can do SEO, social media or paid traffic.

The more diversified your business is, the more stable it can become.

5. Blogging Works Great as a Content Hub

The rise of video (YouTube, TikTok) and social media networks (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest) has been seen by some as a threat to blogging. You regularly hear predictions that Tiktok (or whichever new platform) will kill blogging.

In reality, these different media types and platforms present huge opportunities for any blogger who can take advantage of them.

As a modern day blogger, you need to be more of a content producer rather than just a writer. Likewise, your blog needs to be more of a content hub rather than a traditional blog.

Why you need to incorporate different content types in your blog

Creating different kinds of content is expensive and time consuming therefore you need to be clear about the benefits. Diversifying your content types will help with:

  • Better communication. Different kinds of information are better conveyed in different ways. For example, it is easier to create a video on how to pitch a tent rather than writing a blog post about it.
  • Better user experience. People today want to consume content in a variety of ways (video, images, and short-form content).
  • Higher traffic. You can also share the content designed for social media on the big platforms to build an audience and generate traffic.
  • Higher conversion rates. Some forms of media like video tend to have a higher conversion rate than plain text.

Why a blog works great as a content hub

A blog has several important advantages that make it ideal as a content hub.

#1. You can integrate different kinds of content into your blog

Blogging platforms like WordPress can now easily accommodate different kinds of content such as images, videos, sounds and maps.  WordPress does this by using free or paid plugins. For example, you can:

  • Embed images. If you have a good WordPress theme like Kadence, creating slideshows and galleries and embedding them in your post is easy.
  • Embed YouTube videos into your blog posts using a plugin like PrestoPlayer.
  • Embed content from social media using Social Snap.

#2. It is easy to convert blog content into other content types

If you have gone through the trouble of creating a blog post, why not repurpose it into a YouTube video, an infographic, a podcast or a social media post?

You can post the re-purposed content on other social media platforms and link them back to your blog to generate traffic.

There are many tools and services that can help you repurpose your blog posts, for example, you can:

  • Convert blog posts into video using tools like CreateStudio and MicMonster. These tools will help you create videos without speaking or showing your face.
  • Convert blog posts in audio for podcasts or videos. Use an AI tool like MicMonster or use a service like Fiverr to hire someone do the conversion.
  • Convert blog posts into social media content and infographics using design a tool like Visme. You can also hire a graphic designer at Fiverr or 99 designs to do it for you.

#3. You can leverage technology to share your blog content on different platforms

Sharing and managing content in different platforms can be a chore. Blogs are able to integrate tools and services that make sharing and managing content much easier. For example, you can:

  • Automatically share your blog posts to various social media platforms using services like Social Snap  or Tailwind (for Pinterest and Instagram).
  • Encourage your visitors to share your content on their social media platforms by incorporating social share buttons on your posts. Plugins like Social Snap make this a breeze.

6. There Are Still Many Unsaturated Blogging Niches

Some people believe that blogging is too saturated and that there is already too much information online. But is this the case?

Many beginner bloggers are attracted to popular blogging niches like travel, lifestyle, personal finance, or food. However, these niches can be competitive and tend to be saturated. This gives the impression that blogging, in general, is saturated.

However, there are still many unsaturated niches. When you look at blogger income reports, you will find blogs in obscure niches like sewing and crocheting consistently making over $10k a month.

Even in the popular and competitive niches, you can still find sub-niches that are still wide open for exploitation.

How can you find unsaturated but profitable niches?

Finding a good blogging niche takes a bit of detective work but with patience, you can find many underserved niches. To uncover profitable but underserved niches, ask yourself the following questions:

#1. Is there demand in the niche?

You need to find out whether people are interested in your prospective niche. You can do this by:

  • Using a Keyword tool like Semrush or Keysearch to find out how many people are searching for a particular topic.
  • Checking e-commerce sites like Amazon to find which kind of products are popular.
  • Using social media to find what kind of topics people like.

#2. How strong is the competition in the niche?

As a beginner, you want to choose a niche where you have a fair chance of competing. Here are things you should look out for.

  • Are the top results dominated by big brands? Brands have big budgets for content writing and SEO. It can be difficult to out-rank them.
  • Are the topics lucrative? Lucrative topics tend to have high competition. You can tell how lucrative a topic is by using a keyword tool to check for the CPC (cost per click). The higher the CPC the more lucrative the topic.
  • How strong is the domain authority of ranking sites? Domain authority is a measure of how many links a site has accumulated. Well established sites have a high domain authority and are difficult to beat. You can use a keyword tool to find out the domain authority of any site.

#3. Can you make money from the niche?

You can determine if there is money to be made in a niche by looking at the following.

  • Are other bloggers making money in the niche? Look at income reports from other bloggers (see blogger income reports here).
  • Will premium ad networks accept you? Premium ad networks like Ezoic, Mediavine or Adthrive tend to pay better. As a beginner, you are more likely to be accepted at Ezoic which has no minimum traffic requirements. See the Ezoic program for beginners.
  • Are there affiliate programs you can sign for? Ideally, you want to be in a niche that has several affiliate programs. You also need to ensure that the affiliate commission rates in your prospective niche are good. You can search for appropriate programs for your niche at Shareasale.

7. There Is Still a Need for Quality Content

There is a huge amount of content that is pumped online every day.

On just one blogging platform (WordPress.com), there were roughly 86 million posts created in a month (or roughly 2,000 posts a minute) [8] (Blogging Statistics).

Has blogging gotten too competitive?

At face value, it looks like there is a lot of competition in blogging but when you take a closer look, you realize that a lot of the content on the internet leaves a lot to be desired.

This is reflected in the amount of time people spend on a blog. The average amount of time visitors spend spend on most sites is 37 seconds (Blogging Statistics). When they encounter mediocre or irrelevant content, they quickly hit the back button.

There is still a lot of poor quality content online including:

  • Hastily written blog posts that have very little information (thin content).
  • Articles that have been spun using bots.
  • Plagiarized articles.
  • Mass produced articles from cheaply outsourced writers who have no incentive to produce great content.

Mediocre content is good news for you

The fact that there are still niches with mediocre content presents you with an opportunity to write better articles and rank.

How to write great content and beat the competition

If you write content blindly, you will not do well, especially in very competitive niches. Here are some ideas you can use to write content that will beat that of your competitors.

#1. Write content that provides value

Write content that people want. Gone are the days when you could write anything you want and still get traffic.

Your content should address people’s specific needs. How do you know what people need? You find this out by using a keyword tool like Semrush or Keysearch to extract keywords and questions that people are typing into Google.

#2. Write content that stands out

Your content should be better than what is already out there.

Why waste your time writing and article if it is going to be worse than what is already there?

Here are some tactics you can use to create content that will stand out:

  • Provide new data by doing your own research.
  • Look for new angles of discussing an old topic.
  • Communicate better, especially where you encounter poorly explained topics.

#3. Ensure that people read your articles

You need to work hard to convince the people skimming your articles to stop and read. You can do this by:

  • Staying relevant to the topic. With longer posts, it is easy to find yourself straying to other topics that are not relevant to what your visitor is looking for.
  • Formating your blog posts well to make it easy for your visitors to find what they need.
  • Be diligent in checking for grammatical errors. Use a tool like Grammarly to catch errors before you publish. The free version will get you started but you can always upgrade to unlock more powerful features.

8. Improvements in Google Algorithms

Good quality content is the lifeblood of blogging but this, by itself, is not enough. When you write good quality content, you want it to have a good chance of ranking on Google.

Given that Google is the world’s largest search engine, it is to our advantage if Google’s algorithms get better at identifying and ranking good content.

In the past, it was quite easy to trick Google into ranking poor quality blog content using black hat SEO tactics. This is because Google relied a lot on backlinks to determine whether content was of good quality or not.

This played a big part in the proliferation of poor quality blog posts in Google’s top 10 results. Content creators quickly figured out that it was very profitable to use shady tactics to rank hastily produced low quality content.

Fortunately, Google’s algorithms have improved significantly. Starting in 2011, through the Penguin and Panda algorithm updates, Google dropped many poor quality sites from its search rankings [9]. With every update, the Google AI is still getting better.

How can you take advantage of Google’s increasing ability to detect great content?

Now that good content is likely to rank well, writing great content and having a sound SEO strategy is the best long term approach. Below are some strategies you can use.

#1. Learn all you can about SEO

Given that Google is the biggest referrer of web traffic to websites, it is important to learn all you can about how to leverage Google’s traffic potential.

You can do this by familiarizing yourself with genuine Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques. There are many legit SEO techniques that you can use without resorting to black hat techniques.

#2. Avoid black hat SEO tactics

While some people may still get results by using black-hat tactics, these successes will be short-lived.

Avoid black hat SEO tactics like buying links from link farms, keyword stuffing, or comment spamming among many others. Many of these tactics no longer work and they put your site at the risk of being dropped from the search results.

Watch out for companies that promise to get you ranked on Google only for them to procure spammy links that will eventually get you penalized.

#3. Build authority sites

The best way to get Google traffic now and in the future is to build authority sites. These are sites that demonstrate expertise, authoritativeness, and trust (EAT) by providing accurate, reliable and valuable information. This is especially important if you are in a YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) niche like health or legal advice.

In the past, you could make good money in blogging by building many small niche sites with thin content outsourced to cheap writers. While you may still be able to get away with this tactic in low competition niches, it will become increasingly difficult to rank your sites once these niches become more competitive.

9. There Are Untapped Opportunities in International Content and Languages

There are many languages and countries that are underserved on the internet.

About 61% of blogs and websites on the internet are in English yet only 26% of the world population use English as a first language (Blogging Statistics).

This means that if you create content to serve these non-english audiences now, you can harness the benefits of getting in early in a growing market.

You can incorporate international and multi-lingual SEO practices in your website or blog to get visitors from different countries and languages.

Benefits of international and multi-lingual SEO

There are major benefits of targeting a more global audience, especially in emerging markets.

  • Lower competition. The traditional English-speaking markets in America, UK and Australia are highly competitive and will continue to get even more competitive.
  • Growth. Internet penetration in many countries in Asia and Africa is increasing rapidly due to reduced cost of internet access. Many of these regions are underserved in terms of content and products.
  • E-commerce opportunities. Many emerging markets are seeing increased adoption of online shopping and mobile payment solutions.

How to leverage the power of international and multi-lingual SEO

Instead of targeting one country or one language, you can target several countries and languages with your blog. This will help you grow your audience or customer base. You can do this by:

#1. Having your blog or website translated

Depending on your budget, you can translate your entire blog or only a few pages ( such as your money pages).

The easiest and cheapest way to translate your blog or website is to use a plugin like Weglot which uses artificial intelligence to automatically translate your blog content into multiple languages.

Alternatively, you can hire translators at Fiverr to manually do the translation but this can get quite costly if you have to do multiple languages.

#2. Creating content in your local language

If you come from a country where English is not widely spoken, you can put up a blog in your local language. You can even set up different blogs in different niches if you find that the competition is low.

Many bloggers shy away from local content because they are afraid that they may not have access to premium ad networks and some affiliate programs. However, there are so many other ways of monetizing traffic as long as you are creative.

#3. Targeting local SEO

If you can rank for terms related to a specific region or town, you can drive that local traffic to local businesses and get paid for referring visitors to them.

Many international local businesses do not have the skill, the interest or the budget to do the kind of SEO you are capable of. This presents you with an opportunity to profit from consulting, affiliate and advertising deals.

10. Blogging Still Works Great for Marketing

Effective marketing is probably one of the biggest headaches that businesses face. You can have the best product but if you do not know how to market it well, your business is at risk.

Challenges of traditional marketing

It is becoming more difficult for small businesses to use traditional forms of marketing (such as radio, tv or print) because of various challenges such as:

  • Increasing advertising costs.
  • Low ROI (Return on Investment).
  • Increasingly cumbersome and time consuming marketing strategies.
  • Loss of trust in traditional advertising mediums.

Using blogging as a marketing tool will help you overcome a lot of these challenges and more.

Why blogging works well as a marketing tool

Many businesses still use blogging for marketing because blogging is able to leverage many of the best advantages of content marketing. Here is why blogging works well for marketing.

#1. Blogging is effective

According to Google, 90% of people who visit a shop search for information online first [10] (Blogging Statistics).

People use blogs for product research because blogs can go into greater detail about a product or service. In addition, if you use the right keywords, blogs can deliver highly targeted traffic which leads to much higher conversion rates.

#2. Blogging can be a particularly passive way of marketing

With many other forms of marketing, you have to constantly keep marketing to remain relevant. Blogging, on the other hand, can be quite passive.

A ConvertKit survey found that 42% of professional bloggers worked less than 5 hours a week on their blog but made more money than the average American (see analysis of blogger surveys).

Although it can take a lot of time and effort to get the initial mass of content on your blog, you can consistently bring in traffic without much additional effort if you have done a good job of targeting evergreen topics and keywords. All you need to do is to keep updating your content.

#3. Blogging is cheaper than paid advertising

Blogging, in the long run, ends up being much cheaper than advertising because of the passive traffic it can bring.

With paid advertising, when you stop advertising, you don’t get visitors any more. This means that you have to constantly spend on advertising.

This is bad strategy because costs on major advertising platforms like Google and Facebook have been rising and will continue to rise. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to see a return on your advertising investment.

A good strategy, therefore, would be to use advertising only as a way of getting your initial audience or for amplifying your blogging SEO efforts.

Final Thoughts

One of the biggest fears when getting into blogging is that your efforts will be wasted. As you can see from this article, far from facing an uncertain future, blogging is poised to keep growing. It is neither dead nor dying.

If you are willing to be patient and do things the right way, blogging can open up many good opportunities to make money online or promote your business.
